Julia's back

from ten days in Las Vegas, still saucer-eyed from how peculiar it all was. She said the show went well enough, and she met a great number of people, some of whom she knew well as customers from her internet shop. She said there was no natural daylight in Vegas, absolutely none. And how, once you got there, there was no need to leave your hotel for the duration of your stay. Everything was there - cocktails, chemists, clothes, 'coffee' shops. And she brought T-shirts! These are the ones she bought for Sid and me - I leave you to guess which is which.

To my utter delight, Beri came down with the Pox yesterday. He's only had two complete days in Reception, and he will only have one term in this class, so to lose probably over a week of school seems very unfair. And I spotted the first spot on Sid earlier today too. AND Jeremy will be in Aberdeen all next week. Oh, let joy be unconfined.

So, do I have this right, that Beri showed his first spots on Thursday? And an unironic cheer of thanks is raised to him if Rose ends up getting them, as she has so far successfully escaped, much to my chagrin.

Also wanted to ask you if you have seen any of the trailers for 'The Painted Veil', based on Somerset Maugham's novel. I am rather saddened by the sudden publicity for this 1930's work as hitherto it was in my own personal lexicon of "So, are you feeling a bit sorry for yourself today? Well, at least no-one is emotionally blackmailing you to go and live amongst a cholera epidemic, so look on the bright side and get on with life," school of thought. So, what gets YOU through your day?

So sorry to hear little Sid and Beri have the pox, I saw Sophie Kemp today and she was looking really sorry for herself covered in spots - better to get it now rather than later in life. If Sid is up for playing next week - we have all had chicken pox so would love to see her.

In answer to Elaines question - what gets YOU through the day? Well, tonight once I had put the children to bed I ate one of their Easter eggs - am I a bad mother as I really don't feel guilty - no not one bit guilty?!

Elaine - as Julia says, better sooner than later. But poor Beri is very badly affected, and suffering EXTREMELY vociferously.

I never got into Maugham - Waugh was my 1930s writer of choice. I will order the Painted Veil toot sweet.

Julia - it was Ollie and Sophie Kemp wot brought the disease into our house. And thanks so much for the invite - it also depends on how Beri is feeling.

The way I see it, is that you sacrificed your own health for the sake of your children by eating that chocolate. You noble person, you.
